Lantzville Foothills Community and Hiking Area
Don't Forget to Bookmark This Site!Long known for its great mountain biking trails, casual hikes and pristine forests the Lantzville foothills are a very easily accessed plethora of trails. There are many small hills and (foothills) that offer some great places to get the legs moving. Please keep in mind before heading out to this area that most of the trails are not on flat ground.
How to get to the Foothills:
Coming from the North of Nanoose Bay, take a right off the main highway onto Superior road. Take your first left at the top of the hill (strange fork in the road before it turns off to the right) onto Harby road. Harby road then becomes Philip Road . Take a right on Aulds Road and at the end of Aulds turn left on Harwood where it is a dead end. Park here and head across the bridge that you'll see just off into the woods. Walk up the hill and your on the main trail that takes you into the foothills.
Coming from the South:
Turn left onto the Ware Road that's in Lanztville and you want to be heading uphill, otherwise you're going the wrong way for the foothills, but the right way for the Lantzville pub. At the End of Ware Road, take a left on Aulds.
The first thing you'll see on this hike is the marsh where the very lucky few will spot beavers. Keep on heading up the road and it won't take long to see the roads where the houses are being built. This area offers great views of Lantzville and Nanaimo . Keep heading along the main road again and you'll think you've ventured into the centre of the island. You'll find amazingly beautiful creaks and rivers along with bright green woods and wildlife you didn't even know existed.
The Map below shows Harwood Drive only, the place to park is at the lower end of Harwood Drive.
